Pakistan Will Go to Any Length to Defend Saudi Arabia: DG ISPR

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye leaders pictured during the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, accompanied by a news-style headline about the trilateral defence pact and mutual security commitments.

Pakistan Reaffirms Support for Saudi Arabia

Pakistan has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the security of Saudi Arabia, with DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry saying the country will go “to any extent” required to defend the Kingdom. Speaking to Arab News, the DG ISPR said Pakistan stands with Saudi Arabia both diplomatically and physically. He stressed that Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi security is unconditional.

Commitment Includes Holy Sites

Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan’s commitment also extends to protecting Haramain Sharifain, the two holiest sites of Islam in Makkah and Madinah. He said there should be no doubt about Pakistan’s position and that the country would continue to defend Saudi Arabia against any aggression.

Statement Comes Amid Rising Tensions

The statement comes as Saudi Arabia faces increasing attacks linked to the Houthi conflict in Yemen. Saudi authorities recently said they intercepted a Houthi drone near restricted airspace around Makkah. Another intercepted drone caused debris to fall in Taif, resulting in one death and injuries to two people, according to reports. The recent attacks have increased concerns about the security of Saudi cities and critical infrastructure.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye Defence Pact

Pakistan’s statement also comes after the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye. Under the agreement, an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all three countries. The pact is intended to strengthen collective defense and deterrence. Pakistan has described the agreement as defensive and not directed against any particular country.

Pakistan Says It Supports Diplomacy

Despite its defense commitment to Saudi Arabia, Pakistan continues to call for a diplomatic solution to the wider regional conflict. Islamabad has been trying to maintain communication with different regional powers and has also supported efforts to bring the parties back to negotiations. The DG ISPR said Pakistan continues to look for common ground despite mistrust and disagreements between the sides.

No Details on Possible Military Deployment

While the DG ISPR strongly reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment, he did not provide details about whether Saudi Arabia has formally requested additional Pakistani forces. He also did not indicate how the defense commitment would be implemented in a specific military situation. Operational details of the defense agreement remain classified.

Strong Message From Pakistan

The latest statement sends a clear message about Pakistan’s position toward Saudi Arabia. With tensions rising in the region, Islamabad says its longstanding relationship with Riyadh remains strong and that it is prepared to support the Kingdom if required. The government is also continuing its diplomatic efforts to prevent the regional conflict from spreading further.
