Adil Bazai Taken Into Custody
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MNA Adil Bazai has been taken into custody in Islamabad, bringing the number of detained PTI lawmakers in the capital to six, according to police sources and local media reports. His arrest comes as authorities increase security measures ahead of PTI’s planned September 27 protest and march in Islamabad.
Six PTI Lawmakers Detained
The detained lawmakers include Senator Saifullah Niazi and MNAs Sanaullah Masti Khel, Mian Ahsan Jamal, Dawar Kundi, Ghaus Muhammad, and Adil Bazai. Reports say the lawmakers have been detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance and shifted to Jhelum Jail.
Arrests Ahead of September 27 Protest
The detentions come ahead of PTI’s announced protest and long march towards Islamabad on September 27. The party has said it plans to mobilize supporters, while government authorities have been preparing security arrangements and measures to manage movement into the capital.
PTI Calls for Release
PTI has condemned the arrests and demanded the immediate release of its detained parliamentarians. The party has also called for authorities to give detained lawmakers access to their families and lawyers. PTI said that if anyone faces legal allegations, the courts should handle the matter according to the law.
Security Tightened in Islamabad
Authorities are also deploying additional police personnel to Islamabad ahead of the planned mobilization. Police sources said Punjab and Sindh are sending contingents to assist local authorities, while security preparations are being made around key roads and entry points.
Political Situation Remains Tense
The latest arrests add to tensions between the government and PTI before the September 27 protest. PTI leadership has maintained that it will proceed with the planned mobilization, while government officials have stressed the need to maintain public order and comply with court directions concerning protests in the capital (AAMAX).
