Imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan has called on his party to intensify its anti-government protest on August 5, the date marking his second jail anniversary. Imran Khan’s call for mass mobilization was revealed by his sister, Aleema Khan, while speaking to reporters, signaling renewed political pressure on the ruling coalition.
Protest to Begin Post-Muharram
Aleema said Imran Khan had instructed that the movement should begin after the 10th of Muharram. She stated, “Muharram 10 has passed, the party will now unveil its strategy.”
She spoke outside Adiala Jail after meeting Khan alongside Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan. According to her, Khan will lead the protest from jail, insisting he feels “free” inside prison, while others are “trapped outside.”
Protest Details Yet to Be Disclosed
Aleema did not share the full plan but confirmed that Khan’s family will participate. The protest route, possibly starting from Peshawar to Lahore, will be announced by the party soon.
Khan also urged that those who can’t handle the movement’s pressure should step aside.
Solitary Confinement Allegations
Aleema claimed Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi are being held in solitary confinement. She added that Khan has not been allowed to see his personal physician for 10 months.
Sister Noreen Niazi reported that Khan is in good health, but the jail has blocked his access to TV, newspapers, and books for the past week.
Aleema also criticized the suspension of 26 PTI lawmakers in Punjab, alleging it was done to please Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab Chief Minister.
CM Gandapur to Lead Protest
PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram explained that earlier protests were delayed due to the Iran-Israel conflict and later out of respect for Muharram. He said the demonstrations will now begin at the district and provincial levels. Responding to KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur’s comment about carrying weapons, Akram said it was meant as a self-defence remark. He confirmed that Gandapur will lead the protest on Imran Khan’s orders.
Conclusion
With August 5 approaching, PTI is preparing for a major push against the government. Imran Khan’s call to lead the protest from jail adds powerful symbolic weight to the movement. The party is expected to reveal more details in the coming days.
