Pakistan Decides Not to Play in Next Year’s Over-50 Cricket World Cup in India

Pakistani veterans cricket team celebrating with a trophy on the field, alongside a headline announcing Pakistan’s withdrawal from the Pakistan Over-50 Cricket World Cup in India in 2027.

Pakistan has reportedly decided not to participate in next year’s Over-50 Cricket World Cup scheduled to take place in India. The reported decision could affect the tournament’s lineup and raises questions about the arrangements for Pakistan’s veteran cricketers. The Over-50 Cricket World Cup is a competition for veteran players, bringing together teams of experienced cricketers. Any withdrawal by Pakistan would be a notable development for the tournament and its organisers.

Government Permission Denied

Fawad Ijaz Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA), confirmed that the team would not participate after the government declined to grant permission for the trip. He said the association had sought clearance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior before making its decision.

Tournament Scheduled for January 2027

The International Masters Cricket Over-50s World Cup is scheduled to take place in Hyderabad, India, from January 23 to February 7, 2027. The competition brings together veteran cricketers representing different countries.

Pakistan Was Set to Defend Its Title

Pakistan entered the tournament as defending champions after winning the 2025 edition in Sri Lanka. The team defeated Sri Lanka in the final to secure the title and was preparing for another campaign before the withdrawal decision.

India Had Offered Visas and Security Assurances

According to Fawad Ijaz Khan, Indian veteran cricket officials had assured Pakistan’s association that visas would be provided and high-level security arrangements would be made for the visiting team. However, the assurances did not result in permission from Pakistan’s government for the team to travel.

Association Accepts the Decision

Fawad Ijaz Khan said the association would respect the government’s decision. He also expressed regret that Pakistan would be unable to defend its championship and extended his best wishes to the tournament organisers and participating teams.

What Pakistan’s Withdrawal Means

Pakistan’s absence will mean the defending champions will not compete for the title in India next year. The decision concerns the veterans’ Over-50 competition and should not be confused with Pakistan’s participation in other international cricket tournaments. The withdrawal highlights the role government travel clearance can play in international sporting events. Further updates from the tournament organisers may clarify how Pakistan’s absence will affect the competition’s final arrangements.
