Karachi police investigation into an acid attack case in Liaquatabad

Police Say Case Was Solved Within 48 Hours

Karachi police have arrested two men in connection with an acid attack on a woman in the Liaquatabad area. Police said the woman’s husband allegedly planned the attack and paid another man to carry it out. The arrests came after investigators examined CCTV footage and other evidence collected from the area.

Woman Attacked While Travelling to Work

The incident took place in Liaquatabad No. 5, where the woman, identified in reports as Arooj, was travelling with her husband on a motorcycle. Police said a man waiting near a street corner approached as the motorcycle slowed and allegedly threw acid at the woman before escaping through nearby streets. She suffered injuries to her neck and back and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Suspect Arrested Through CCTV Investigation

According to police, investigators reviewed CCTV footage and used technical assistance to trace the alleged attacker. A man identified as Bilal, a rickshaw driver and resident of Liaquatabad, was subsequently arrested. Police allege that he was the person who carried out the attack.

Husband Also Taken Into Custody

Police said Bilal told investigators that the woman’s husband, Owais, had hired and paid him for the attack. Following this statement, officers took Owais into custody. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged arrangement and the motive behind the incident.

Investigation Into the Motive Continues

Investigators have said that domestic disagreements and suspicion may have been connected to the alleged motive. Police are also looking into where the corrosive substance came from and whether anyone else was involved. These details remain part of the ongoing investigation and have not been established by a court.

Police Continue Probe

A case was registered under Section 336-B of the Pakistan Penal Code, which covers offenses involving hurt caused by corrosive substances. Police said further investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the attack and determine the roles of those arrested.
